Classification: Full Time (40 hours/week)
Schedule: Regular office hours, some evenings and weekends

Siskiyou Land Trust is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting forest lands, agricultural lands, and wildlands in far Northern California’s Siskiyou County. We work with willing landowners, volunteers, and conservation partners to conserve land, restore habitats, and engage with the community to foster environmental stewardship. SLT is a growing organization. The Stewardship Program Director role is a new position created in response to an increase in conserved lands and conservation easements.

Position Summary:

Siskiyou Land Trust is seeking a dynamic and experienced Stewardship Program Director to develop and lead our land conservation and management efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in natural resource management, conservation planning, and program management, as well as a passion for environmental conservation.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for Siskiyou Land Trust’s stewardship program, including setting goals, priorities, and strategies to advance the organization’s mission.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of stewardship plans for protected properties, including conservation easements, preserves, and working lands.
  • Lead efforts to monitor and assess the ecological health of protected properties, identify conservation priorities, and track changes over time.
  • Direct habitat restoration and enhancement projects to improve biodiversity, water quality, and ecosystem function on protected lands.
  • Manage invasive species control efforts, including mapping, monitoring, and treatment of invasive plants and animals.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with landowners, partners, agencies, tribes, and stakeholders to implement stewardship activities and advance conservation goals.
  • Lead land acquisition and conservation planning efforts, including property assessments, due diligence, and negotiation of conservation easements.
  • Engage with the community through educational and outreach activities to promote conservation principles, land stewardship practices, and the importance of protecting natural resources.
  • Prepare and oversee the implementation of annual work plans, budgets, and grant proposals to support stewardship program activities.
  • Provide supervision, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for stewardship staff, interns, and volunteers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in natural resource management, conservation biology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in land stewardship, conservation planning, or related roles, with progressively increasing levels of responsibility and leadership.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with demonstrated experience in strategic planning, program development, and team management.
  • In-depth knowledge of ecological principles, conservation biology, and land management practices, with experience in habitat restoration and invasive species management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and communicate complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working with GIS mapping and analysis, GPS technology, and other tools for spatial data management and analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with landowners, partners, agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Siskiyou Land Trust and a passion for environmental conservation.
  • Experience with land trust philosophy, tools, and approaches to land and water conservation.
