Siskiyou Land Trust has been chosen for the 2018 Patagonia x Moosejaw Flash Challenge Thing, an online fundraising competition that will be held during the week of March 20-27.
SLT has the chance to win one of the significant prizes offered by outdoor retailers Patagonia and Moosejaw, the sponsors of the event.
The organizations raising the most money on their contest donation page will win even more…$4500, $10,000 or first place $12,500 for their project.
Only donations made online at the SLT Challenge page for contest donations will count for the contest…and the competition ends early morning on March 27th.

Participating non-profits will keep the donations they receive on their contest page during the challenge week…and the three organizations that raise the most will be awarded the additional prizes.
“It’s not every day that someone contacts a small non-profit and says… hey, Patagonia and Moosejaw chose you and 18 other small conservation non-profits to participate in a week long online fundraising campaign where the top three fundraisers are gifted prize money totaling $25,000…” reports Kathleen Hitt, conservation director here at SLT. “What did we say to that? Yes please!”
More outdoor education spaces and trails!
So what’s our project? Funds raised by SLT will support the development of outdoor education spaces and trails at the Garden Greenway and Sisson Meadow properties in Mt. Shasta!
“We’d love to win first place to help complete a slate of projects we have lined up.” Hitt explains. “Help us turn our Garden Greenway trail from a muddy mess near Alma Street that requires pallets to cross into a beautiful stone path. Help us restore the streambank at the Sisson Meadow Alder Street entrance. Help us build bathroom facilities for our garden area. Help us create raised beds and watering systems to share with Boys and Girls Club and educational programs. Help us purchase equipment for seed saving and garden activities.”
The Garden Greenway property, across Alma Street from Sisson Elementary School, the library and Sisson Meadow, is earmarked for community orchards and gardens. An outdoor amphitheater and nature trails will be developed, along with new infrastructure including restrooms, watering systems, teaching resources and hands-on learning spaces. These projects will be funded by grants and fundraisers such as this. SLT’s partners include the Mount Shasta Trail Association and Mt. Shasta Rotary Club (whose volunteers recently helped build the new garden fence on the property), the Boys and Girls Club, area schools, local businesses and community members.
Patagonia and Moosejaw have teamed up in the Flash Challenge to support the charities that their customers love the most. Organized through an online fundraising platform, Crowdrise, and powered by GoFundMe, this contest presents the opportunity to raise much needed capital for visionary projects like the Garden Greenway.
“Thank you for your support and spreading the word about the Flash Challenge,” concludes Hitt, “and thank you for making SLT the great local organization that we strive to be for Siskiyou County.”
The Flash Challenge competition begins on Tuesday, March 20th.
