Siskiyou Land Trust is pleased to announce that Pacific Power Foundation has awarded funding to assist in SLT’s work to bring students , educators and community to Sisson Meadow and the Garden Greenway in Mt. Shasta.
In 2013 the Land Trust launched the Garden Greenway Acquisition project – an effort to raise funds for the purchase of this 2.89-acre parcel across from Sisson School, the Mt. Shasta Public Library, Sisson Meadow and neighborhoods. Through community fundraising, $150,000 was raised to purchase the property.
Since the Land Trust’s purchase of the property in January 2014, with the hard work of community volunteers and in-kind donations of material and equipment use, the landscape is being prepared for its role in community outdoor education. After a terrific work in 2015 and 2016 and building improvements, the Land Trust is moving to deepen our partnerships with schools and educators to get students and community members out on this landscape.
Pacific Power Foundation funding will assist with diverse outreach efforts to teachers and community for an evaluation of interest and need. Additionally, SLT will work with teachers to craft two events on these landscapes designed to make it easy for teachers to bring students to outdoor learning.
