The Siskiyou Land Trust’s first slideshow of the 2015-2016 season will be presented Thursday, November 12th at 7 PM in the Mt. Shasta Sisson Museum Event room.
Join local artists Brad and Marci Goldpaint as they share their experiences of “snatching” beautiful and moving images from all over the Western US while teaching and backpacking in wilderness areas.
This Hammond Ranch couple learns that the dark sky is rapidly being replaced by light pollution. Discover how the night sky is being invaded by excessive, misdirected, and obtrusive artificial light that sets an insane limit on the faintness of stars and galaxies that can be observed or photographed. They will share their message through photography, time-lapse video, and humorous outdoor adventures into uninhabited areas in an attempt to chase the Milky Way within the endangered dark side of light.
Photography became a passion for Brad while studying Architecture at the Southern California Institute of Architecture and the International Institute of Architecture in Vico Morcote, Switzerland beginning in 2002. Born and raised in Southern California, he discovered an escape from the concrete jungles of urban life while traveling throughout the Pacific North and Southwest. After graduating with an Architecture degree in 2005, he started working for a firm in Los Angeles known for their very modern and contemporary design philosophy.
When architect Brad Goldpaint’s mother died suddenly from a routine surgery, he was left with a huge void in his life. He decided to hike the Pacific Crest Trail in 2010 in search of answers, and he found one—in the night sky. He met Marci at mile 50 on the PCT and so began the start of their great adventure together. On May 16, 2015 they were married.
The show is a fundraiser for the Siskiyou Land Trust. The suggested donation is $8. For more information see: www.siskiyoulandtrust.org, Facebook or call 926-2259. For more examples of Brad and Marci’s incredible photography, visit goldpaintphotography.com.
