Fabulous Springtime Rafting! Saturday, June 3, 2017 — All Day

Due to our unusually wet winter, the annual  SLT rafting trip on the Klamath River has been changed to the Upper Sacramento!

Our normal take-out access is  closed this year with a washed out road, and after a thorough exploration down the Klamath River Highway, we found that due to the heavy winter and high flows none of the reasonable take-out points downstream from Thompson Creek are useable or safe… all the way to Happy Camp.  Therefore we are changing the trip to the Upper Sacramento south of Dunsmuir.
The Upper Sacramento offers some of the best class III+ rafting around. The pace is fast and there are rapids around every bend. The river dances through a steep, lush canyon with cascading side streams. This is much more of a whitewater experience than the Klamath.  The Upper Sac is running at a beautiful, fun level right now and is likely to stay that way for the next few weeks.
We will focus our SLT conservation on the Box Canyon trail project upstream from the river run we will now be doing.  We’ll raft from Sims (about 20 miles south of the town of Mt. Shasta on Interstate 5) on down to Mosquito Creek. It will still be an all day event meeting at Sims. Rd river crossing (Click for a google map) at 9:30 AM.  Warm synthetic layered clothing is recommended with a paddle jacket (some jackets will be available for loan).  Bring your own lunch in a plastic/tupperware container.  We will supply PFD’s and the rafting equipment for paddling the 14 mile stretch of class III+ whitewater (with experienced volunteer guides donating their time and rafting gear).
Late registration is open until Wednesday, May 31st!  Adults or teens age 15 and older with a parent may participate.  Call Steve at 859-2884 with questions regarding details.
