On Thursday evening, February 9, the Siskiyou Land Trust will host Dennis Johnson and Steve Bollock presenting stories and photographs from journeys in northern Alaska’s Brooks Range. The program begins at 7PM at the Sisson Museum Auditorium in Mt. Shasta, with a suggested donation of $8 as a fundraiser for SLT.
Two rafting trips, in 2008 and 2015, show the beauty and the challenges of wilderness boating in the tundra environment. Photos and stories feature grizzly bears, autumn colors, caribou migration, the beauty of the aurora borealis, the unique flora and fauna found above the Arctic Circle, and an unexpected early winter arrival that kept 10 local adventurers waiting on an icy lakeshore for several days until bush planes could fly in and return them to civilization.
Trip organizer & leader, Dennis Johnson, frequent visitor to the far north, will speak about the Arctic environment and its challenges. Steve Bollock, long time local river guide, will present a fabulous 24 minute slideshow of photos from both trips. Questions and (hopefully) answers will complete the evening.
Join us to meet the trip leaders, many of the the trip participants, and discover what makes them do these things!
