At the base of Mt. Hakkyo, the rural Japanese towns of Tenkawa and Dorogawa bear a remarkable resemblance to Mt. Shasta City.
The Omine mountain range is the largest in the Kansai region of Japan, Mount Hakkyo stands highest in this range at 6,283 feet. Even though over 65% of Japan remains forested and open, the Japanese countryside is not the usual image when thinking about the highly technological and urban country of Japan.
In March of 2013, Kara Balog and Kyle Drennen had the opportunity to experience both the neon lights and fast-paced life of Osaka while setting their sights on climbing Mount Hakkyo, a mere 4 hours away.
Please join us on Wednesday, Feb 12 for a slideshow presentation on this remarkable adventure. Showtime is 7:00 pm at the Sisson Museum in Mt. Shasta. A $5 suggested donation is a fundraiser for SLT.
