What is the future of your land? Farm, ranch and forest landowners and their families are invited to attend “Ties to the Land,” a two-art workshop exploring the succession planning process. Beginning on April 24, Thursday afternoon from 3:00 to 6:00 at College of the Siskiyous in Weed, and completing on Thursday, May 8, the class is free except for a $10 charge per person for workbooks and refreshments.
The workshop is presented by University of California Extension and the Shasta Vallery Resource Conservation District, in partnership with local organizations including the Siskiyou County farm Bureau, the Cattlemen’s Association, and the Siskiyou Land Trust.
Participants will learn how to develop succession plans to protect their long-term land interests, including:
- the steps to succession planning
- how to clarify goals for family farm, ranch and forest lands
- understanding the financial and legal impacts of land ownership across generations
- tools and techniques including trusts, limited liability, easements and more
Succession planning can ensure that heirs inherit not only property, but the passion and the tools needed for good stewardship of the land.
Ties to the Land: April 24 and May 8, 3:00 to 6:00 pm at College of the Siskiyous in Weed (McCloud Building Room 1-112).
